CO-EXTRUSION — Striping
and Multilayer
PTCA, Stenting, Guiding Catheters, Dialysis and Other Medical Device
Applications
ExtruMed manufactures precision
co-extrusion tubing for use in coronary, vascular and other medical
device
applications.
Critical Component for PTCA and Guiding
Catheters
ExtruMed’s
co-extrusion tubing enables highly precise designs for shafts used
in many applications. For example, tubing could have a lubricious
inner layer for passing guide wires with a nylon or Pebax® outer
layer for balloon bonding. Another function for co-extrusion is
radio-opaque stripes for viewing under a fluoroscope or a colored
stripe for catheter orientation.
Multi-Layered or Striped Co-Extrusion
Tubing
ExtruMed manufactures co-extrusion tubing
with multiple layers, colored stripes and radio-opaque stripes.
When designing co-extruded tubing, engineers need to use two
materials or more that are chemically compatible to prevent the tubing
from delaminating. When co-extruded tubing requires incompatible
inner and outer layers, a third layer is needed to tie the layers
together.
Tooling, Materials, Process and Quality Control
ExtruMed offers
the latest technology and expertise to produce precision co-extruded
tubing in both multi-layer and stripe configurations. Both the
die design and the extrusion process figure into manufacturing
precision co-extrusion tubing. Each material in the tube requires
a separate extruder that connects to the co-extrusion die. Process
control and tooling design are critical for producing precision
co-extruded tubing.
Striping, Dual Layer and Tri-Layer Co-Extrusions
ExtruMed is capable of producing co-extrusion tubing in striped,
dual-layer and tri-layer configurations. Our process engineers
and extrusion technicians have been producing high precision co-extrusions
for more than a decade. Our co-extrusion capabilities include
